Vincent Smith II, a 29-year-old from Camden, New Jersey, died this morning after falling into a vat of melted chocolate at the Cocoa Services Inc. plant where he was temping. He was dumping chunks of chocolate into the eight-foot-deep melting pot when he fell in.
Co-workers hit the emergency shut off switches, but it was too late. Smith had been knocked unconscious by one of the stirring paddles. The chocolate inside was 120 degrees and Smith was stuck in it for 10 minutes before rescue workers arrived.
