The rhinestone-studded glove Michael Jackson wore in 1983, when he debuted the moonwalk on Motown’s 25th anniversary television special, has fetched $350,000 at auction.
The winning bidder is Hoffman Ma, 36, of Hong Kong. The total cost, after taxes and fees, is a whopping $420,000. For one glove! It’s not even a full set!
The glove was expected to sell for $60,000 tops, but Jackson’s death and the crazed nostalgia surrounding it caused bids to skyrocket.
Also selling for way more than predicted was a jacket Jackson wore for his 1989 “Bad” tour. Instead of $8,000, it brought in $225,000. And a fedora Jackson wore when he did the moonwalk sold for $22,000 instead of the anticipated $2,000.
