Perseid Meteor Shower a Great Show

The annual Perseid meteor shower has been going on for a week, but it will be most visible Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The shower consists of tiny particles of dust left over from the comet Swift-Tuttle. The dust orbits the sun, and once a year, the Earth passes through it, burning the dust in its atmosphere and creating a great light show.
According to National Geographic News:
From any vantage point in the world, you might see more than 80 meteors an hour streak across the sky during the best viewing time, when the moon’s glare will be weakest—late Tuesday night and into the wee hours of Wednesday, local cloud and lighting conditions permitting.
Since the light from the moon will hinder your ability to see the meteors, it is recommended to look away from the moon and block out city lights as much as possible. Then lie on your back and check out the show. The Perseid meteors will appear from the northeastern sky and then shoot off in all directions.
