Sesame Street Turns 40

Sesame street Sesame Street Turns 40Sesame Street starts its 40th year on television on November 10th, which makes me… old. But I still feel like a kid when I watch Ernie and Bert, and hear Grover’s crazy voice, or laugh at Oscar’s grumpiness. And I still want to hug Big Bird.

The longest running children’s television series is still produced by the non-profit Sesame Workshop (formerly the Children’s Television Workshop). The company was started by Joan Ganz Cooney and Ralph Rogers as an experiment to prove television could be used as an educational tool.

The Muppets, of course, are the brainchildren of genius Jim Henson. His characters’ funny and unique personalities are the secret weapon that make Sesame Street so successful. Children have fun learning when they’re counting cookies with Cookie Monster or singing about letters with Ernie and Bert. And parents enjoy it too!

Happy birthday, Sesame Street!

One of my favorites. This is why Sesame Street is so awesome.

This was my nephew’s favorite:
