A suicide bomb in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province killed 42 people on Sunday, including 6 commanders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The Sunni Muslim insurgent group, Jundollah (God’s Soldiers), has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Guards commander-in-chief Mohammad Ali Jafari has stated that Iranian security officials have presented documents showing direct ties from Jundollah to U.S., British and Pakistani intelligence organizations.
The incident is causing tension between Iran and major world powers surrounding nuclear talks at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
“Behind this scene are the American and British intelligence apparatus, and there will have to be retaliatory measures to punish them,” Jafari was quoted as saying.
“This person himself and his plans are undoubtedly under the umbrella and the protection of these (U.S., British and Pakistani) organizations.”
The United States, Britain and Pakistan have all denied involvement and condemned the the bombing, the bloodiest attack in Iran since 1980-88 war with Iraq. The Revolutionary Guards are asserting that the terrorists were trained by America and Britain. Looks like we have a he said, she said situation on our hands. Either way, this tragedy is sure to fuel the already too-hot fire.
