Scott Brown to Be Sworn in Early

Posted on 03. Feb, 2010 by fondue in News, Politics

brown2 Scott Brown to Be Sworn in EarlyMassachusetts Senator-elect Scott Brown, who will be filling the seat vacated by Teddy Kennedy, will be sworn into the Senate a week early due to pressure from Congressional Republicans.

The swearing in was supposed to take place on February 11th, but it will now occur on Thursday, February 4th.

Republicans want to get Brown into the Senate as soon as possible to help them block anything and everything the Democrats want to pass (which they’ve been doing without him already). The United States Senate has never seen anything like the filibustering that’s taken place since Obama took office. Usually, a filibuster is saved for the most dire of circumstances. But this Republican minority has used it to block nearly every piece of legislation the Democrats have proposed, basically holding our government hostage.

The Republicans had 14 years as the majority in the Senate, and what did they do with it? They used up our surplus, grew our deficit to over a trillion dollars, and made no reforms to health care. Now that they are in the minority, they are saying they have the answers to all these problems. Well, they had their chance and did nothing, so they should stop their grandstanding and perpetual campaigning and actually do something to help this country.
